South Georgian Bay Ski Hills
One of the biggest driving forces for tourism in our area are the skiing options along the Niagara Escarpment. Offering beautiful views of the bay, slopes to learn on for beginners; and challenging off-piste runs for advanced skiiers, riders and thrill seekers. The Town of Blue Mountains, Municipality of Grey Highlands and Clearview all offer options and treats for downhill sliders of all levels. Here’s a list of ski hills we’ve collaborated to help you get the skiing and riding experience you desire from our beautiful winter playground.
A ski hill like no other in Ontario, Blue Mountain is by far one of the biggest attractions in Collingwood and surrounding area. Blue Mountain resort offers 43 day trails and 30 night trails, as well as 2 terrain parks, with runs groomed daily. Sliders of all levels can experience a plethora of terrain from beginner to advanced. Rentals are available and if you’ve never tried skiing and decide it isn’t for you, there’s lots to do in the Village at Blue Mountain with great cuisine, shopping, events and activities and even a brewery right at the base of the hill! Lift tickets can be purchased online and specials deals are offered throughout the year to buy advance tickets and season passes online. Winter Since 1924! The Toronto Ski Club club is a family with a common bond – the love of winter! We celebrate throughout the snow season hosting several events for our club members of all ages, where everyone can meet, greet and become lifelong friends. Proudly a pioneering group to help establish skiing along the Niagara Escarpment, Toronto Ski Club provides its members with a club house at the base of the North area of Blue Mountain Resort ski hill, offering the longest ski season of any private resort in the area. Known for its talented members and social and alpine program, there’s a lot of pride that comes with membership at this club. Test drive a one year membership for your family of 4 for $800 or give the midweek membership a try, allowing members who avoid the busy weekends at Blue Mountain, a quiet place to socialize, eat and hang their hat while hitting the slopes Monday through Friday.
Another private club located at the base of the North Area of Blue Mountain Resort, the Collingwood Ski Club is run by its members for its members and is rich in history and tradition. Membership requires two sponsorship letters from members in good standing, but be prepared – the waiting list is currently 1-3 years long.
The pioneers of this prestigious hill wanted something simple that holds true for membership in a private hill today – they were tired of long wait lines at public hills – and came up with a great solution that is Osler Bluff Ski Club today. The hill is situated ideally distant enough from Georgian Bay, that its moderating effect does not have a negative influence on snow making, and allows for more natural snow. Osler Bluff has recently renovated their clubhouse, described as beautiful and spacious yet remains intimate. There are 5 chairlifts, a 6.5 acre terrain park and over 25 trails with a large variety of pitches and lengths throughout its 130 acres of land. There are a variety of membership options, including an Introductory Membership ($2,500+); Single Membership ($25,000+); Couple Membership ($35,000); Family Membership ($57,500+); and Senior 60+ Membership ($14,375+) – all initiation fees are in addition to annual dues and HST. Craigleith Ski Club
Craigleith is another wonderful private hill in the area offering 32 groomed trails in a variety of terrain and offers a real “home away from home” feeling for its members. There are three lodges and programs for all ages and abilities. The social programs at this club offer a fun environment for the whole family and the instructors and teachers allow members to challenge their skiing and riding skills. On Sundays, members can ski across to Alpine Ski Club for additional terrain.
Craigleith Ski Club offers a variety of memberships including an introductory annual membership ($1000+); Family Membership ($43,000+); Single Membership ($30,000+); Senior Membership ($16,500 for a couple, $12,500 for single) and an advancement incentive to the adult children of parents with the Family Membership – all listed fees are in addition to annual dues and HST. When thinking of private ski hills in the area, one should not miss considering Alpine Ski Club! The club takes pride in its emphasis on safety and limiting membership so that members and guests sense the privileged quality that comes from a private ski club as opposed to a public ski hill. The hill offers 35 trails, 4 chair lifts, and beautiful trails across 120 acres of land. The club has recently built a beautiful contemporary club house with floor to ceiling windows facing the slopes and social programs and events throughout the season. There is a lodge at the top of the hill as well and a small warming hut at the bottom of the Millenium Chair in the North part of the club. On Sundays, members can ski across to Alpine Ski Club for additional terrain. There are a variety of membership options including an Introductory membership ($5000+); Family Membership ($39,500+) and Single Membership ($25,675+) – initiation fee $1500 is in additional to annual dues and HST. Georgian Peaks offers the highest vertical drop of all ski clubs in Ontario at 820 feet. Host to official GFIS standard slalom races, the club offers 24 trails and trains outstanding skiers and snowboarders. Georgian Peaks has an amazing social scene, 24 trails, 3 lodges and 2 terrain parks. Close to the shores of Georgian Bay, the views here are incredible! Coming this fall: a large scale renovation of the existing club house for added benefit to members.
There are a variety of membership options available for this private club including and Introductory Annual Membership ($4000+); Under 40 Program (1000+/year); Full Life Membership ($35,000+); Single Full Life Membership ($21,000); and Senior Full Life Membership ($14,000) – all membership fees are subject to annual dues and HST. Devil’s Glen Country Club, located on nearly 600 acres of land within the Niagara Escarpment, is another wonderful family-oriented private ski hill community within a 20 minute’s drive of Collingwood. Offering terrain from beginner to expert, the club features wonderful facilities, great conditions and a newly renovated lodge! Lots of benefits to membership including a diverse terrain park, social programs and child care programs. A variety of memberships exist including Introductory, Under 40, Senior, Over 60, and Welcome Back (for returning members). Away from other clubs mentioned above, Beaver Valley Ski Club is located along the Niagara Escarpment south of Thornbury. There are 20 runs groomed daily and terrain varies for all abilities including 2 terrain parks and many competitive and recreational programs for all ages. Trial membership is available at a cost of $2500 for the first winter, and the initiation fee for a full membership is $21,000.
